Energy Flow
These images poetically visualize the energy flows that radiate through our bodies, during intense physical activity and movement, such as during sport and training. I drew inspiration from the natural world, abstract patterns, movement and human anatomy.
My hobby is sports. I have been doing sports for six years, such as lifting, running, jumping rope and so on. Sports bring me infinite positive energy, so I hope to encourage more people, especially women, to try sports through illustrations.

Process
Why this project
From my personal experience and passion

The picture on the left shows the changes in my figure after I started working out.
The changes that sports have brought to me are not only physical but also mental. I can feel the energy flowing within me.
How can I visualize this abstract, invisible but strong feeling?
Secondary Research
I drew inspiration from futurism to convey dynamic movement in my work. Additionally, I studied impressionism to understand their mastery of color and light.

First-hand Research
Observational drawing in the British Museum
I like ancient Greek artworks very much because those figures are very strong and flexible. The British Museum provided a chance to see artworks up close. I went to the museum with my sketchbook and painting materials like coloured pencils, pens and makers.
My project is about sports, and I will need to have a better understanding of human beauty. I had gained a lot from sketching in the British Museum. The first was the acquisition of information. Going to the museum to get first-hand research information was much more interesting than relying on the Internet. The second was I learnt how to present artworks on the theme of sports. These artists did a good job of depicting the movement and muscular outline of the figures.

Photography Experiment
There are so many interesting plants in the UK that I have never seen before! I took a lot of photos, which might inspire me in the future.

Figure& Colour Experiment
I recorded videos of my exercise and observed my movements. Then, using the knowledge of Impressionism and futurism I had learned from second-hand research, I attempted to capture colors and dynamics.

Pattern Design Experiment
After going through many interesting experiments, I thought of returning to the topic: How to visualize the energy flow in the body during exercise.
I tried to draw some abstract pictures representing energy. For instance, how do my cells and my blood function? Isn't it rich in colors and shapes?

More Experiments on Abstract Patterns
I thought of those lovely plants in the UK. Some of them, their appearance exceeded my imagination.
Plants have unique vitality and texture, just like the human body. It took me a long time to walk into the park, into the bushes, observe these plants and record the feelings they gave me. Then I created some abstract patterns based on this.

Final Design
I have explored colors, the capture of movements, the design of abstract patterns, and the study of human muscle anatomy. I sum up all this knowledge to create the final work. I chose my favorite sports: running, rope skipping, weightlifting and stretching. Then keep simplifying.

Final Outcome

Mock-up Pictures
The painting process has come to an end here, but this project is not over. It could have even more possibilities.
I went to the gym to take pictures of the environment and imagined where my paintings should appear in the future. Is it the inspiring poster on the wall? Is it a colorful yoga mat? Is it the strong color in gyms and studios? ...
